EPWD is a research network focused on advancing women-led development in India. As the world’s fastest-growing major economy, India’s progress towards the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision is closely tied to enabling women’s full economic participation. EPWD positions women’s workforce engagement as a central driver of economic and structural transformation, moving beyond a narrow focus on participation rates to emphasise the quality and productivity of women’s work across sectors, states, and regions.
Our work is structured around four key dimensions: analysing baselines and trends, examining persistent barriers, identifying emerging opportunities, and charting future pathways. Drawing on rigorous research, national and international data, field insights, and multi-stakeholder consultations, EPWD generates evidence grounded in data, lived experiences, and innovation to inform policymaking and shape a gender-inclusive future of work.
Through sectoral and cross-sectoral research, as well as strategic platforms, EPWD seeks to develop a comprehensive blueprint for inclusive growth—ensuring that women are not only participants in, but central to, India’s growth trajectory.
